Riverside - Work to provide eco friendly, affordable housing due to start

19 March 2010

Riverside Carlisle is shortly due to start work on the building of 10 new properties for local occupancy at Hallbankgate near Brampton.

Planning permission for the development, which will provide 7 units for rent and 3 for shared ownership, was granted back in January 2010 and enabling work has commenced with main construction activity starting in April.

Riverside will be working with developer Bramall Construction who work to improve social housing and build affordable and sustainable new homes in the heart of communities.

Malcolm Irving is Leasehold and Development Manager at Riverside and is looking forward to the work starting. He said, “This development at Hallbankgate will provide high quality properties in rural locations which will be constructed to ensure they are in keeping with the village and contribute to a demand for affordable housing in the area. There will be the use of natural materials with design features to compliment the village such as; dry stone walling, stone work to property gables, wooden windows and doors with slate tiling to the roofs and chimney stacks.”

He continued, “The houses have been designed to achieve high levels of energy efficiency achieving Code Level Three in the Code for Sustainable Homes and using modern technology such as the use of the NIBE Fighter Unit Exhaust Air Heating System for the heating and hot water system. Advances such as these will result in lower running costs. Further ecologically friendly elements have been introduced such as the use of timber frame construction for the properties, permeable paving to the driveways and rainwater harvesting.”

Arthur Hallworth, Design Manager from Bramall Construction said “We are delighted to have been selected by Riverside Carlisle to develop these eco-friendly family homes. By being brought into the design process at a very early stage, we have worked with the designers to combine new technology with traditional natural materials, to produce homes which fit in well with their rural setting.”
