Riverside - Riverside Home Ownership celebrates silver anniversary

Riverside Home Ownership is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Established in 1985 as Harbour Housing, the organisation started out with just two members of staff managing four sheltered schemes in Merseyside.

Today it manages nearly 3,500 properties across the North West, North East and Midlands and employs 40 office-based staff and 12 on-site caretakers.

Recognised as one of the largest and most dynamic affordable housing providers, Riverside Home Ownership specialises in developing, selling and managing affordable homes from schemes specifically designed for over 55s to first-time buyer properties.

It offers a number of different options from shared ownership, which allows the purchaser to buy as much as they can and pay a subsidised rent on the rest, to general leasehold, which sees residents pay a charge in return for services such as gardening, communal cleaning and day to day repairs.

Carol Lavender, Director of Riverside Home Ownership, said: “Our silver anniversary is an important milestone. It’s a reflection of how we have extended our roots out of Merseyside to provide affordable homes across the UK. Over the last 25 years we have witnessed the housing market boom and slump and the issue of home ownership is just as relevant today as it has always been.”

“Buying and selling houses is a major event in your life – financially, physically and emotionally. We do our best to make the experience as hassle free as possible. As a social landlord our goal is affordable homes not profit for shareholders. As a service provider we try to help people with everything from viewings and valuations to buildings insurance and bin rotas.”

Riverside Home Ownership is the HomeBuy agent in Cumbria, which means it acts as the first point of contact for anybody seeking government-funded home ownership opportunities in the county.

It is also the Registered Social Landlord provider of the Mortgage Rescue Scheme in Cheshire, which is a national initiative of the Communities and Local Government and the Homes and Communities Agency that helps vulnerable homeowners facing repossession to remain in their home.
