Riverside - Runcorn children potty about gardening

Riverside is calling on keen gardeners in the Runcorn area to enter their annual competition – and to encourage more people to develop green fingers they held a gardening day for residents of Hallwood Park.

Around 35 families planted and painted pots for their gardens close to the local school.

Lorna Hughes is community initiatives officer for Riverside. She said: “The community forum was keen to hold an event to get local people together. It was a great day – the children really enjoyed decorating their plant pots. Hopefully it’s given them and their parents a taste for getting stuck into more gardening.”

Riverside has received complaints from tenants about dog fouling in the area, as a result of people not clearing up after their pets.

Lorna Hughes added: “The gardening day helped to encourage ownership and pride in neighbourhoods, so that people may think twice about leaving dog mess in communal areas.”

Riverside’s gardening competition closes on Friday 2 July. Riverside tenants can enter their front and rear gardens. Residents in the Palacefields, Hallwood Park, Murdishaw, Halton Brook and Runcorn old town areas can enter hanging baskets, containers, communal gardens or allotments. Winners will receive a voucher to spend on their gardens. For further information, contact Lorna Hughes on 01928 596112.
