Riverside - Nowhere to Hide for Anti Social Behaviour on Carlisle Estate
Riverside in Carlisle has donated £15,000 out of its community investment fund for a permanent CCTV camera in Botcherby to help put local residents minds at ease.
The camera, which is located on the corner of Borland Avenue and Holywell Crescent, replaces a portable camera. Offering superior quality images and a much greater range, it will act as a deterrent to anti social and criminal behaviour and can also be used to provide evidence for any cases which go to court.
The placement of the camera is a joint project funded by Riverside, Carlisle City Council, local councillors and Carlisle and Eden Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP).
Riverside’s Regeneration Officer, Mark Gilbertson said, “This new camera will be a real asset for the people of Botcherby. It offers them increased safety and acts as a deterrent to anyone thinking about engaging in anti social behaviour. The quality is so good that the images could be used as evidence in court.”
Inspector Adrian Sowerby from Cumbria Constabulary is delighted with the new camera. He said, “The addition of a permanent CCTV camera for Borland Avenue will enhance the already excellent CCTV coverage across the city. I’m pleased that Riverside, the CDRP, local councillors and Carlisle City Council have been able to pool funds to support this initiative and it shows what can be achieved by partnership working. I’m sure it will help keep crime and disorder down and reassure local residents.”
