Riverside - Just the job for Halton Brook neighbours
Residents of Halton Brook in Runcorn found out more about vacancies and careers options on their doorstep, at a jobs fair held at the local community centre.
Social landlord Riverside worked with partners Halton People into Jobs and Four Estates to organise the event, in a bid to combat worklessness in the area.
According to labour market statistics, unemployment in Halton Brook is higher than the national average by almost two per cent, and there are more people without qualifications – exceeding the national average by 11 per cent.
Representatives from the armed services, NHS and Connexions attended the jobs fair to offer advice on careers and apprenticeships alongside fire service staff.
Lorna Hughes is community engagement officer for Riverside. She said: “We have been working closely with Halton People into Jobs to provide employment advice on the doorstep. Our specialist advisor is helping people explore new careers or training options and is working with local employers to find out more about the latest vacancies on offer locally.”
