Riverside - Hull tenants vote for future with Riverside
Tenants on the North Bransholme estate in Hull have voted in favour of an £85 million investment into their city estate, through a housing stock transfer to Riverside, announced last week.
Four hundred and fifty one tenants (56.58%) voted yes to the transfer from Hull City Council to Riverside, from a turnout of 797 (64.9%). This means that 1,229 tenants will transfer, many of them benefiting from Riverside’s pledge to carry out modernisation work and landscaping to run down areas of the estate.
Councillor Nadine Burton, who represents the estate and is chair of the URBaN tenants and residents group said: “We are absolutely delighted with the result. It is such an opportunity for the estate and I hope the people who voted ‘no’, or didn’t vote at all, will see the benefits of the transfer.”
Riverside has also promised to refurbish dozens of long-term empty properties on the estate so that they can be rented out.
Dave Wiseman, assistant director at Riverside has been working with URBaN on the stock transfer proposal:
“We are incredibly grateful to URBaN for their hard work and support over the last 18 months. We are pleased that the outcome has been positive and once consent of the Communities and Local Government department is obtained we can begin the regeneration of North Bransholme”.
